Case Study 7

Underpinning
i

FL Dept of Health Location: Renovation of Historic Department of Health Building, Jacksonville, FL
Owner: State of Florida Department of Health
General Contractor: Auld & White

Problem

Pile Foundations of building had deteriorated and were no longer supporting the building.  Renovation plans required that all foundations be underpinned before final structural renovations could take place.  This would require foundation to be temporarily exposed and undercut increasing the potential for catastrophic failure.

Solution

HGS installed a series of A. B. Chance Helical Anchors to temporarily stabilize existing deteriorated foundation members.  Following stabilization HGS installed a combination of helical anchors, minipiles and poured grade beams to renovate foundations.  Work was performed in excavations beneath building exceeding ' deep and was completed within budget and time schedule.
