Case Study 5

Slurry Grouting
i

Location: World Golf Village, St. Augustine Fl
Owner: World Golf Village
Engineers: Ellis & Associates

Problem

Filter cloth was inadvertently left out when construction at the "Walk of Champions" was done.  After several hard rains, engineers noticed that the underlying soil that supported the walkway was being washed out through the wall blocks to the adjacent lake.  This loss support caused several areas of the walkway to crack and threatened to delay the scheduled opening of World Golf Village, while the walkway was removed filter fabric installed and the walkway re-poured at considerable expense to owner and contractor.

Solution

HGS working in conjunction with Ellis & Associates, formulated a plan to drill a series of injection points on a pre-planned grid and inject a very flow able sand cement slurry to fill void areas and seal backside of wall to prevent further loss of soils.  Work was performed on an emergency basis and the attraction was able to be opened on schedule.  This repair method also saved the contractor/owner approximately 60% of the proposed costs for removing and replacing walkway.
