Problem
Expansion of grandstands required a 12' sheer cut of soils
embankments in lieu of massive excavation and shoring of column
pads. Time schedule for work was tight due to upcoming
Winston Cup Race.
Solution
HGS
was contracted to inject a sodium silicate based
grout along the perimeter of the excavation zone to form a
cut-off wall enabling the existing soil to be cut vertically
without loss of soil support on adjacent column foundations.
Injections were placed to a depth of up to 20' and on 2'
spacing. Supported soil wall allowed for a clean
excavation and construction of new foundations and cut about 3
weeks off project schedule.
